Got to start with the basics... like how to hold your pencil. Really?
Grey suggests 4 different ways. Three I get. One I cannot for the life of me understand. You hold the pencil between your thumb and index finger (like normal) but put the blunt end of the pencil tucked into your palm. I feel like I'm all thumbs trying to do this. I think Benny would have better luck than I drawing with this grip... "[which] is good for bold, angular mark-making and heavy shading." Duh ... that's because all you can do is push down with blunt force. 0% accuracy and 100% chance that you

get the mark how you want, where you want. If you want your work to look like a 3 yr old did it, this is the grip for you. (Can any of you readers do this? Please let me know if you can!!)
But the book also says that most movements will be made from the wrist, elbow and shoulder. So I guess I need to video tape me drawing, because I would have thought most movements would be from my fingers and wrist unless I was drawing on a canvas bigger than me.
Hunh. Learning stuff already. Who would have thought my kindergarten teacher taught me wrong?
