The whole world is a box or a cylinder

What a lot of work!
I've discovered something really interesting - you can break the entire world down into two shapes: boxes and cylinders.
Really. Really?
Really! Crazy, hey?
Today's lesson was about objects and observation, using six steps to copy a bunch of simple objects. I actually did ALL six steps, which is why this simple sketch took me over two hours. (No kidding!) Start with an H lead and do general mass, then map out essential lengths using your pencil to judge angles and proportions. Then and only then do you add lines to make sure everything is in the correct location in regards to other objects, and then you do the fine details. After all that and a zillion lines on your paper, I finally got to switch to a 2B lead
to strengthen the good lines. And then the last step is to erase the mistakes, and guidelines with an eraser. I erased more than I kept!
So, here's the result. :) And those darn grips, they are actually getting to be less awkward, and they actually work to make a difference in shading.

Wow. I feel like I'm in first grade again. :)
