A new way to look at pain

I can't wish it away.
 I can't always ignore it, I find it tends to scream for my attention if I pretend it doesn't exist. 

"Embracing" it seems ridiculous, but I know that's what successful chronic pain sufferers do.
Can I see my pain as a gift?
 Has anyone been able to do exactly that?
