Lesson Sixteen: More Lighting

I decided to finish with the lighting lesson, this time concentrating on the umbra shadow and the penumbra. (So that's proof that there is physics involved, and this isn't just artsy fartsy stuff.) Shadows cross each other and are weakened by the presence of the extra light source. This effect is known as penumbra and the areas of deeper shade where the shadows cross are called the umbra.

With this picture, the light source was further away, changing the quality
of light. Some new features in the shadow were visible that I wasn't able to see in the previous two studies. This took quite a while, I was surprised. And you can see I drew the penumbra and umbra shadows that were cast on the table.

I did this first thing in the morning. I felt awful: stiff and sore all over, and it really was a good way to start my day. Afterwards I felt much more relaxed, awake, and able to start moving.
