Santa Claus & Broccoli

I think I've met the green thumb version of Santa Claus!

The cabbage moths that have been feasting on my broccoli plants all winter long are no longer going to be a problem.

My garden's new best friend Marty told me that the white cabbage moths are actually territorial, and so they will not attack a plant where there is already a white cabbage moth. So the secret to keeping them off your plants is to put tiny little white fake butterflies next to each plant you want to save.

These butterflies are simply cut out of plastic white milk jugs on bamboo skewers.

Then nearby you leave some sacrificial plants that the white moths can have .... And presto! My new broccoli plants will grow up nice and tall (not like my previous ones) and only the ones that I have left on purpose for the moths will get eaten.

Thank you, Marty!
